So yesterday (the 17th) was St. Patricks Day! We didn't do a whole lot other than dress in green (well Kaizen anyway) and take some pics.
First off......does anyone know why we celebrate St. Patrick?? Or who he even is for that matter.......
Well here is some interesting facts.....
So Saint Patrick is the patron saint and national apostle of Ireland. He was born in Roman Britain and was kidnapped by Irish Leaders and brought to Ireland as a slave at the age of 16. He later escaped, but returned to Ireland and was credited with bringing Christianity to its people. Irish folklore tells that one of his teaching methods included using the shamrock to explain the Christian doctrine of the Trinity to the Irish people. After nearly thirty years of evangelism (the practice of relaying information about a particular set of beliefs to others who do not hold those beliefs.), he died on 17 March 461.
Well, Bridget Haggerty, author of The Traditional Irish Wedding and the Irish Culture and Customs Web site says that in the United States, it's customary to wear green on St. Patrick's Day. But the color was, for a long time considered unlucky in Ireland. As Haggerty explains, Irish folklore holds that green is the favorite color of the Good People (the proper name for faeries). They are likely to steal people, especially children, who wear too much of the color.
Others say the reason is because the colors of the Republic Flag of Ireland are green, white and orange. The green represents the Catholic side of Ireland and St. Patrick, the Catholic who converted many Irishmen to Christianity.
So there it is.......the history behind St. Patty's Day.
We are gonna get this potty training thing done and over with! Lol! just kidding
